What is GMRS
(General Mobile Radio Service)?
GMRS, or General Mobile Radio Service, is a two-way voice communication system that requires a license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It is used for short-to-medium distance communication, often by families or groups for activities like camping, road trips, or event management, and is more powerful than license-free options like FRS. A GMRS license is issued to individuals over 18, costs $35 for a 10-year term, and extends to their immediate family members, with no exam required.
