PreppComm Folding Solar Panel
This solar panel was designed to fit into the new Mini GO Bag front compartment. It is very compact, and opens to four high efficiency (greater than 23%) mono crystal panels, which will provide the full charging capacity for PreppComm batteries and products.
The larger solar panels we also sell as part of the Super Power Solar Battery is capable of charging both our batteries and an additional load, such as a cel phone, at the same time. This solar panel is designed to charge just one at a time, and this is smaller, lighter, and less expensive.
The panels are enclosed with 600D Polyester, to IP63 standard. This means that dust and dirt can't get inside, and some sprinkles from rain will not hurt, i.e., they are water resistant and dust proof.
While there are dual USB outputs, we recommend only using one at a time. Otherwise, you will extend the charging time 2x, as the current will be shared between the two outputs.
A stretch band is provided to keep the panels closed when not in use. An LED next to the dual USB output connectors indicates charging is ongoing.

Multi-Band QRP Portable Computer Plus Transceiver!
Check out the MMX Bundles below!
NOTE: while the receiver in the MMX can tune outside of the amateur radio bands, the transmitter is restricted to the frequencies allocated by the FCC for amateur radio operation. In addition, by entering your license, the frequencies may be additionally limited based on the available frequencies allocated for your license level.
The MMX Multi-band Morse Code Transceiver is the evolution of the DMX-40 Morse Code Transceiver, and includes the keyboard and a small pair of wired earbuds! It has the same industry-leading decoder, the same high sensitive SDR receiver, 10 frequency memories per band, RPL microprogramming for custom automation, and more. However, what is added is a band board plug-in system that supports up to 3 bands. Currently, the supported bands include 80, 40, and 20 meters. You can purchase a single band MMX, and add other bands later, purchase a dual band MMX, and add the third band later, or even get all three bands on your initial order!
Specifications are similar to the DMX-40+, such as receiver sensitivity of -119 dBm. Power output is highest on 40 meter, and slightly lower on 80 and 20 meter bands, as listed in the Specifications tab in the right column.
The MMX-ZERO!
A version of the MMX is available that is JUST for using with an existing station. No QRP transceiver inside. It's called the MMX-ZERO, or ZERO. Check it out!
Better, Easier, Relaxing QSO's at Higher Speeds!
Do you need help decoding those fast senders? Do you want a less stressful QSO? Not only do we help you decode with the best decoder in the industry, but you will gradually learn to do so as well by way of cognitive association! For sending, you can use a straight key, the built-in keyboard to Morse system with automatic station ID's and hand-offs, auto-CQ and station calls, automatic capture of the other station's call sign, plus the powerful RPL language for microprogramming to customize of the automation or create your own automations. And, you can get help and practice sending using the build-in decoder to listen to your keying in receive mode. It will treat you as "just another station" and decode your signal, give you your speed, and tell you what other stations would think you had sent. Great key training! And don't forget to start by pressing the Space Bar to restart the decoder before you begin keying!.
Another stress reducer! The built-in typing speed test function sets your maximum transmit speed to match your typing speed! This means that - even if the other guy can type or send at 35 WPM, but you can only type at 22 WPM, that is how fast you will go, enabling you to have time to partially fill the type-ahead buffer so you can relax and edit your keyboard mistakes, and have a little time to think about what you want to say next. A great stress reducer. Of course if the other station is sending at a lower speed, your MMX will match them so they can decode you!
Talk about stress reducing, the automatic capture of the other station's call sign is a great one! It automatically appears in the CCS button (CCS is Captured Call Sign), and is used for the automatic station ID's and hand-offs. No more quick scribbling to write down their call sign! Or typing station ID's over and over. Even a Handle, QTH, Rig, Antenna macro built-in so you can send that info with a single keystroke!
If you want to use a paddle or iambic key, an external keyer is required to convert your key to straight key or "pure Morse" output to feed into the MMX.
So, up your game! Get an MMX to go with you for a great experience in QRP with a lightweight powerful computer plus QRP transceiver! Great for POTA, SOTA, etc. Or, get an MMX attached to your station using our External Transceiver Cable Assembly to make it easy and neat to connect and integrate your station and the MMX as your decoder and encoder. You can also just use the MMX as a decoder, with no keyboard by pressing the status line to restart the decoder
Videos And More Info!
There is lots more features: check out our main features on the Features tab in the right panel, and our More Features list!
You can Download Data Sheet here.
Below are two video links. The first is a long open box to QSO live demo via Coffee and Ham Radio on YouTube. Note that the MMX is accidentally placed into CTX mode during much of the session (and thus can't decode human code, or HCW). I finally noticed that, and after that, things went a lot better!
MMX Live Demo
Since the MMX is just a DMX-40 with band cards, the DMX-40 videos are very helpful and on-target for learning about the MMX:

And here is a look inside the MMX. Note: What comes with the MMX is misrepresented in this video. Only the keyboard, cleaning cloth, and power adaptor come with the MMX, but otherwise, pretty accurate:
Also, for more information, read the DMX-40 description. The MMX has all the same functions and features, but 3 band capability!

The Nomad Experience
It is hard to describe the experience of using the MMX Nomad. Initially, there is a little fumbling to open the case, due to the magnetic closure system. We added thumb presses on the lid to assist with that. Once you get used to how to open the lid, the experience is truly awesome - especially if you have used a different setup for Morse code, such as an MMX with its separate keyboard and cable, a battery bank with its cable, a speaker or earbuds with their cable, and an SWR bridge with its cable. Ditch all of that!
Only one piece to pull out!
Everything built in!
Wire-less (no wires and plugs)
Turn it on, put your hands on the keyboard! It immediately feels so RIGHT. So EASY! Like it was always meant to be!
Whoa! Your brain screams "GOTTA HAVE IT!"
This product has been an idea in my mind, and then in various stages of development for there years. I had to learn how to model in 3D. I had to learn how to use a large 3D printer, and how to master all of the settings to get the result I wanted. But most of all, I had to figure out how to do a lid with a hinge! And how to make the lid snap shut! Oh, the number of different ideas that failed. The last idea was to use magnets. Oh, the number of magnets that were too weak and small. This is not an injection-molded machine - thus the precision of each piece is not exact. I had to learn how to compensate for that. There was a LOT of learning to get the idea into reality, and then, ultimately, into your hands to enjoy. -- Eric, AF7YQ
Overview
The MMX Nomad is a complete ham station - just add an antenna! It receives and transmits Morse code, and receives SSB and AM. EASY to set up - just open the lid, and press the recessed power button on the rear panel! No plugging and unplugging wires, and trying to arrange all the pieces and wires to avoid RF pickup and other issues. Just turn it on and open! Voila! You are on the air! EASY! Who does not like easy? This is especially nice for those of you who don't want to fiddle around with all of the pieces and connecting wires. What a rats nest! NO LONGER! Check it out!
MMX 3-Band Morse Transceiver (80/40/20 M) Receives short wave, SSB and AMPowered Speaker20,000 mah Li-Ion Power Bank with BMS(BMS = Battery Management System)Solar Battery Charger via USB C connectorBuilt-in KeyboardTUNE Low-Power Mode with Reflected Power Meter to Assist Antenna TuningHigh Power Mode for higher power outputSupports MMX External Transceiver ModeAuxiliary Connector Supports External Power AmplifierAuxiliary Connector Supports Disabled AssistExternal straight key support
It's an MMX, plus...
The transceiver has all of the features of the MMX, with all three plugins installed (80, 40, and 20 meters). The power system is charged via a USB 3.0 C connector from an included solar panel, or via an included AC USB wall plug, or any USB 2.0 female connector. Power requires for maximum charge rate: 5V at 2+ amps. Battery level is displayed on the main screen, and the system will automatically power down when the battery voltage level goes to the minimum level specified by the battery manufacturer. Charging of course likewise does a careful process that limits the battery voltage and current maximums as specified by the manufacturer. This BMS feature prevents over and under charge, as well as excessive current into our out of the battery system.
Dual Mode Support
The MMX Nomad also supports External Mode: connect to an external transceiver, using its receiver and transmitter instead of the built-in transceiver. Now, you are free to use ANY BAND your external transceiver works on! No more band limitations! And probably more power and perhaps a better receiver, as well. So the Nomad is a dual function computer system, with three microprocessors combining their processing capability to give you the standard in decoding ability, even in heavy noise and the standard in encoding ability with frequency memories, automatic station ID and call sign capture, type-ahead buffer and auto speed control with a typing test built in, and micro-programs aka macros.
Audio and RF Power
While there is a built-in speaker amplifier and speaker, a headphone jack is also provided, which, when used, disconnects the speaker. Earbuds are included.
The high power mode increases the power output (and reduces the battery charge more rapidly). Expect to see from 50 to 75 percent more power output in this mode, up to 5-6 watts, depending on band and frequency within the band. A single letter H or M for high and medium indicates the power level on the main screen.
And an Auxiliary Connector
The auxiliary connector includes the Transmit/Receive line for controlling an external RF power amplifier, and CW IN and CW OUT lines for use by external devices to assist the deaf, blind or other physical limitations. It also includes the KEY IN line, also available on the KEY IN/OUT jack.
MMX Nomad GO Bag Portable!
The MMX Nomad is packed into a small, easily carried case, with powerful magnetic closures. it weighs slightly over 3 lbs (3.14 to be exact), and is a mere 11 ½ inches wide, 8 ½ inches deep, and 2 ¼ inches high in the rear.
The MMX Nomad includes our Folding Solar Panel and our Mini GoBag, as shown in the photo, plus USB 3.0 cable and USB Power Cube, plus ear buds, and weighs about 4 lbs. Pen not included. The cable connect the either the Folding Solar Panel, any AC outlet via the Power Cube, or any USB 2 amp output for charging - from the sun, or an external battery pack with a 5.0V USB output, a laptop with a USB output, or directly from AC via our included USB Power Cube. Charge it anywhere! If you want to carry extra power that does not require sun power, consider our two battery systems or our solar battery.
Battery Life and Care
The battery system includes four Li-Ion 21700 5000 mah batteries. Because of the built-in BMS, no particular care is required. At end of life, the batteries can be replaced.
Operating time with the built-in batteries: receive-only, over 80 hours. Mixed use with typical transmit/receive ratios, over 40 hours. So for a typical maximum use per day of 4 hours, that is 20 days and 10 days - quite a good margin for a weekend or hike into the woods. You don't even need the PreppComm Solar Battery or the Folding Solar Panel, unless you are out in the wild for a long time, or forget to turn the Nomad off, for example.
The GO Bag with the solar panel and other included accessories is about 4 lbs.
Battery life is measured in years. We anticipate you should start seeing a gradual decline in charge capacity after 2-3 years, and useful life out to 10 years.
Note: earbuds are not shown in the image. Also included is a microfiber cloth for cleaning the screen.
Add Bands to your MMX!
If you purchased an MMX Morse Code Transceiver with less then its full complement of bands, you can always add a band board at a later time.
Each band board contains the specialized frequency-sensitive components and control circuitry for the band it was designed to operate on. The band board is automatically sensed and the band is automatically added to the available bands via the Frequency Button on the Main Screen. When you select the band for the card, it is automatically connected into the circuitry of the SDR receiver and the transmitter, and ready to use instantly.
Each band board also contains protection components to prevent overload of the final power amplifier (PA) of the transmitter in adverse circumstances. The protection circuit is automatically resettable in most circumstances. While it is very unlikely to cause interruption of the ability to transmit on its band due to a failure of the protection components, a backup band card is not a bad idea in cases where getting one repaired is difficult.
Currently available are 80 meter, 40 meter, and 20 meter band cards.
This is the reference manual for the MMX ZERO. It focuses only on the ZERO capabilities, with no reference to the MMX transceiver, which is not built in. ZERO means no bands built-in. The manual is printed in full color in magazine format on glossy paper.
Included in the manual are instructions for setting up a transceiver, using the Icom 7300 as an example. The user will have to translate that to their own transceiver, as different companies use different terms for the same thing, and different methods or controls for settings.
It is strongly recommended to use the MMX & ZERO Quick Start Guide to begin using your MMX ZERO, and then use this manual the way it was intended, as a reference for information. The manual has a rich set of appendices that have a lot of useful information, for example.
Of course this manual is available as a free PDF download in our Document Library.
The Right Speaker
for your MMX or DMX-40!
There are a lot of variables in the modern self-powered speaker products. Finding the right one that works for the application in mind - allowing you to hear the audio from the DMX-40 or MMX without using headphone.
It turns out that most of the critical functions are not published, so you find out the hard way that the speaker does not work for you. For example, I have a speaker that "forgets" it is plugged into the MMX after having been turned off and back on. So, I have to unplug the audio cable, and plug it back in every time. Nuts. Who would have thought even to ask?
And then there are the speakers that claim to have AUX capability, but when you get them in your hot little hands, hey, where is the AUX input jack? Oh, it's an auxiliary input from a USB source...??
So we took the time to find a suitable speaker to go with your MMX or DMX-40. It is not as small as I would have liked, but it works correctly. And, it has a lot of ofher features you may like:
1. Ability to be charged from our solar battery system
2. FM radio built-in
3. Bluetooth 5.3 connection to your phone
4. Built in microphone for clear phone calling
5. Play MP3 from a USB plug-in
6 Play MP3 from micro SD card plug-in (TF format)
7. Two 5W speakers with stereo sound, 45mm drivers
It also supports TWS, has auto shut-off, It talks to you. It makes coffee! No, forget that. So don't let your teenager get ahold of this! Keep it with your gear and it will remain in excellent condition, no sand in the works. Well, OK, it is also splash proof, whatever that means, so maybe no sand in the works.
The important thing is, plug it in and turn it on, and adjust the volume on the MMX or DMX-40. With typical radio signals and tone signals when transmitting, the speaker should last a day of operation. Charges in 4 hours via an included USB cable into a standard USB power source. Additional cables and USB power bricks available in our Accessories section.
It comes with a manual, but you will need your reading glasses.
This is a complete new massive revision of the original MMX Guide in full color, printed in magazine format! This is the place to start for either a MMX ZERO or a MMX Multi-Band Transceiver.
The Quick Start Guide begins with basic familiarity with the MMX operation, menus, local station setup, and the operation of the CALL, ANS, and CCS buttons, plus volume and decoder gain. Once the basics are covered, which are common to all PreppComm units - including the DMX-40 and the ZERO - the manual branches into two different sections - one for the ZERO and another for the MMX.
Each of the sections starts with electrical setup, and with the ZERO, adds in the external transceiver setup. The sections continue with a quick start on the operation of the unit being covered.
The ZERO guide can be used for the MMX when setting up with an external transceiver, so it becomes useful to the MMX user, as the MMX can operate like a ZERO simply by connecting to an external transceiver.
Not all the information you will need is included in the Quick Start Guide. Use the updated MMX Reference Manual V1.2 or the brand new MMX ZERO Reference Manual V1.0 for more detailed information. All manuals are available in the Document Library for download as PDF or ePub files.

Battery life is measured in years. We anticipate you should start seeing a gradual decline in charge capacity after 2-3 years, and useful life out to 10 years.
NO TUNE 40/20 Meter End-Fed Antenna with Unique Setup Kit
Overview
This is a very unique antenna designed initially for the Professional Ham Station GO Bag, and now extended to multi-band for MMX. It operates on both 40 meters and 20 meters, and does not need to be tuned. This is accomplished via a unique transformer in the antenna matchbox, but requires a counterpoise to operate correctly. The counterpoise wire is of course included as part of the antenna, and complete setup instructions for a sloper and inverted V configurations are included. The antenna is designed for temporary setup using the included setup kit, and is not intended for a permanent setup. It is a truly stealthy, lightweight, portable antenna. However, we include in the setup kit tags (not shown in the images) and flags to use when stealth is not required, to prevent accidental damage to the antenna or persons running into the virtually invisible wire and paracord. And the antenna kit is packaged in a very handsome waterproof 14 oz heavy duty waterproof canvas zipper pouch, to keep everything together and for easy carrying and storage. Canvas color may vary. Note that each component is within its own ziplock bag inside the canvas bag, to keep things neat and organized.
The Antenna
The antenna itself is designed around information documented by AA5TB in his extensive review of end fed antennas with and without counterpoise wires. As far as we know, our design is unique, and utilizes a fascinating point on the curve where the antenna becomes nearly pure resistive as a load, and thus, is radiating nearly all of the applied power into the atmosphere. It operates well in several configurations, but the easiest to set up are the two mentioned above, sloper and inverted-v. Extensive instructions for setup and takedown are included with the kit in a plastic document folder, and the PDF file is here if you want to print it in another format.
The antenna consists of two PolyStealth AWG 26 wires - one, the antenna main wire, and the other, the required counterpoise. The PolyStealth wire is copper-coated steal multiple strand wire, coated with a black anti-UV and anti-reflective coating. It is extremely difficult to see even when you know where it is! Thus, the included tags and flags.
The Setup Kit
This is a totally unique kit. The goal was to provide a way to quickly set up the antenna without cutting or tying knots, so it would be easy to take down, store, and use again. This is not as easy to achieve as it sounds! We had 3 or 4 forays into the field to test different approaches before we finally found the combination that met our goals. Finding the right components was a very time-consuming process, as well.
Included are two spools with 1.18 mm black paracord - 30' on one, and 15' on the other. These are used for "guy" cables for the two described configurations. In addition, a spool hanger is provided for the inverted V configuration, to prevent the antenna wire from coming in contact with the supporting tree limb or other support, which would seriously detune and reduce efficiency of the antenna.
Also included is a lead weight with carabiner to attach to the 30' or 15' length of paracord for throwing over a tree limb during the setup process. This step must be done carefully, watching out for possible bounce-backs or hitting another person standing on the other side of the support.
There are 3 ground stakes to support the two antenna configurations, as well as 3 flags to place where the ground stakes are located, to prevent damage by accidentally tripping over the stakes and attached wire or paracord. Finally, there are tags that can be attached via a clip to the paracord or antenna to men it visible to anyone walking or running in the vicinity. Of course you would not use these in a true stealth situation.
The Application
This antenna and setup kit were designed specifically for QRP rapid deployment and extraction, for use such as POTA, Field Day, and portable operation. Thus, the antenna and setup kit are lightweight, and stealth when needed. The heaviest item is the lead sinker used as the throw weight. While a local rock can be used as a weight, it is hard to attach a carabiner to a rock! Thus, we include it in the package.
The zipper 14 oz heavy duty waterproof canvas pouch is 13.3" x 9.4" and weighs a mere 1.6 pounds fully loaded with the antenna and setup kit.
Also included
Also included in the package are two additional cables, to attach the antenna to your MMX or DMX transceiver. One is a 3 meter (9.6 feet) SMA male to female LMR-100 cable, and the second is a 8 meter (26 feet) SMA male to female LMR-200 cable. These cables can be combined for a total of 13 meters, or about 37 feet length.
All you need to go on the air is a QRP transceiver, such as the MMX Multi-Band Morse Transceiver. For power, consider the SuperPower Solar Battery System.

PreppComm Solar Battery
This 20,000 mah battery has it all: a high-efficiency solar panel on one side, a 4-led battery status and charging level indicator, a green led charging indicator, a lensed flashlight, two ways to charge (USB micro or USB C), and dual USB 2 amp outputs, protected behind a soft plastic cover to keep dirt out.
And best of all, this battery packs 20,000 mah (milli-amp hours) or 20 amp hours of power. It can charge your phone and run your MMX at the same time as it is charging, including plugging in an external solar panel into the USB C connector.
There is even a compass on the back side! Just in case you need it in an emergency.
The packaging is heavy-duty and this product feels great in your hand. A single power button does multiple things:
1. A single short press will turn on the charge indicator if you are in a dark area. The charge indicator - 4 blue LED's and a green LED - will always light up under indoor and outdoor lighting automatically due to the solar panel on the top of the battery.
2. A single long press will turn on the flashlight. a subsequent short press will set to SOS mode, and another will set strobe mode. Finally, the fourth short press will turn off the flashlight.
The 5 led battery charge and status indicator will be active under normal indoor and outdoor daylight without pressing the button, as the built-in solar panel will start charging as soon as there is light on the surface. Note that covering some of the surface may block charging.
This battery is capable of powering an MMX in normal operation for 10-12 days, based on 4 hours use per day including 1 hour of transmit, without any recharging. We recommend an hour a day of charging to maintain battery levels, using our solar panel.
Note: Refurbished product. Professionally restored and backed by a 90-day warranty.
5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a 100W PD-IN port.
